Welcome to Christmas in the O. C.

O.C. updates
O.C. projects

11/23/2009 - Posted our first tweet.  Follow our progress at http://twitter.com/occhristmas

Currently, we have multiple projects going on - a few of them are detailed below:

LED Meteor Tubes - LED meteor tubes have arrived to Christmas in the O.C.  We have provided videos of what you can expect in the 2009 display.

Website Project - we have completely revamped our website.  The new site is hopefully  much easier to navigate and offers even more insight into Christmas in the O.C.  We have added a countdown until Christmas in the O.C. 2009 Lights up! Please email us if you have any suggestions to improve the site.

Candy Cane Project - we are redesigning our candy canes - each candy cane will now be controlled individually.  This means that we will now be using 96 channels to control the 6 candy canes.  We are also going to make them more sturdy and also include some trip wires into the design to deter any unpleasantness from awful people who find enjoyment from destroying Christmas displays - more on this in a future blog.

DIY Controller Project - we are currently experimenting with adding DIY controllers into our display.  We are also going to be adding DMX for 2009.  Links to the DIY sites are included on the Links page - this mission has been officially aborted!

Angel Bells - thanks to Eshepherds of Light, we will be introducing these props into our show,  They have details posted on their website - you can find a link to them on the “Links” page.

Firework Lights - in addition to the firework palm tree, we will be adding some additional firework lights to the show.  These are in the prototype phase, but each firework will require its own controller - we have been scouring the web to watch all of the firework shows that we can to get inspiration.  All we will give  you is that we are going to be using lots of pvc and nylon ties!  So, get ready for some digital, electronic Christmas pyro-excitement!

A True Dallas Experience - not only will you be able to see Oak Cliff like you never have before, but we think that you will leave here understanding why we are the only animated display that is truly in Dallas.  That is all you are getting right now!

Fireflies Are Coming - if you are expecting lightning bugs, unfortunately, we may disappoint you!  But, these beauties from D-Light.us have arrived in the O. C. - and, we think that the letdown of realizing that we don’t have bugs flying around will soon be replaced by amazement when you see what these things can do!

Four House Collaboration - yes, it is official, the show is expanding.  Not only will our neighbors be joining in on the action, you might have to look up as well! Since we had a request to have santa jump from our roof to our neighbor’s.  Well, we took this idea, and always, have made it our own.  Unfortunately, Santa will not be involved, but we can guarantee that there will still be some rooftop to rooftop action!!!

More Powerful FM Transmission - but not too powerful, so as not to have any  regulations violated.  But, you will now hear Christmas in the O. C. the way it is meant to be heard, in crystal clear, stereo sound.

Enhanced Christmas in the O. C. Sign - while we will not be revealing the secrets behind the new  and improved sign that has become one of the most talked about elements of the show (at least to the locals), we can tell you that it will be a visual treat!

On Air Sign - now, you wont have to guess when the next show will be.  If the “On Air” sign is illuminated, then the show is running.  If the sign is not illuminated, you can still enjoy the “SceneSavers” accompanied by the sounds of the season.  Just before the show, the “On Air” sign will blink indicating that the show is about to begin and will stay lit throughout the show.  Hopefully, this will decrease the amount of emails we receive asking why the lights were not dancing when they visited the show.

Project Explanations? - Please email us if you have any questions on any of the elements you see in our display.  We will either explain them to you via email, or if the question warrants it, we may even create a “How To” explaining how we did something.
