Welcome to Christmas in the O. C.
If you ask anyone in Dallas what kind of people live in Oak Cliff Texas, you probably wouldn’t hear the most pleasant of adjectives.
An April 8, 2008 editorial in Oak Cliff People begins with an acknowledgement of the outside world’s perception: “On some days, when you wake up and check the Morning News, Oak Cliff seems to match its dubious reputation. For example, we’re happy if we find our cars unburned in the driveway. It’s a good spring night in the OC when you can leave the windows open for the cool air and not be awakened by gunshots.”
Since the perception of Oak Cliff is pervasive, we wanted to bring positive attention to our community. As CliffDweller highlights, “once an area seemingly in decline, Oak Cliff has transformed itself from a loose association of urban pioneers into a true community.
The people of North Oak Cliff, now representing nearly two dozen swelling neighborhoods, are dedicated to making their part of Dallas thrive.”
Keeping with this effort, we are bringing positive press and visitors from all over Texas to Oak Cliff and they are leaving with smiles on their faces. I even received a high five from one viewer – a junior at SMU here in Dallas. He said that he would never have expected something like this in Oak Cliff. Since that high five, he returned with multiple SUVs full of his friends.
Our goal is to bring joy to those in our community and around the world! And, it is also a way for others to see that Oak Cliff Texas is not exactly what they read in the newspapers or see on the nightly news. We are very honored to invite people to see our O. C.

Being computer nerds, we thought that we were going to use Mr. Christmas and were so excited to have purchased one after Christmas for 50% off. After admiring some of the displays that inspired us, like Marty Slack and Richard Holdman, we realized that 6 channels were not going to be enough - and so began our journey into the addictive world of animated lights!
Some call us Christmas Crazies…and, I guess we are a little crazy. Countless forums, instructables, and brainstorming sessions later, “Christmas in the O. C.” became a reality.
The real reason for doing this though is to give those who see the display a chance to escape the pressures of life - with all of the negativity from Wall Street, the news, the radio, friends, neighbors, bill collectors being fired at us at a relentless pace. If we can give those who see the lights a chance to not think about those pressures and focus on what is truly wonderful about this world - friends, family, and loved ones.
This is why we do it. Giggles from children, ooohs and ahhhs from college kids, inquisitive looks from those who want animate their own lights. Every drop of sweat equity, every search through forum after forum hoping to find others who are clueless like us, every strand of lights that fought with us was totally worth it. Because in the end, this display is not about us - this is about you and hoping that you have the happiest of holidays. We hope to see you again next year!!! Have a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year!!!
